Mediation Services Overview:

(For Counseling Services information please click on 'Counseling Services' above.)

I am glad to know you are looking into resolving some kind of conflict in your life. Whether you are going through a divorce, or dealing with a dispute between landlord/tenant, neighbors, family members, etc. There is nothing like the feeling of putting a difficult situation behind you! I would be more than pleased to help you get to the other side of your conflict.

I have been helping people heal their problems, conflicts and emotional struggles for the past fifteen years and I love what I do. I feel passionately about helping people reach mutually acceptable agreements and move forward with their lives.

Why should you choose me?
       1. First and foremost, I'm extremely successful at helping my clients reach mutual agreements--even those who are convinced their case will have to go to court and be decided by a judge.
       2. I do not charge a "retainer." Many attorneys who offer mediation services want a hefty retainer up-front, since that is standard in legal practice. However, most people I know don't want to invest several thousand dollars in mediation before their mediator does anything for them. I charge a flat-fee per hour, and I work to help resolve conflicts as quickly and as economically as possible.
       3. Mediation can be especially helpful for people who are going through a divorce, as it is usually much cheaper to hire a mediator instead of two attorneys. While going through my own divorce, my ex-husband and I decided that we would only hire one attorney to avoid unnecessary costs. We were shocked to discover that standardized divorce forms printed off of a computer with our own previously agreed-upon conditions inserted into the text could generate legal fees of nearly $4000! Don't let that happen to you: I charge only for the face-to-face services I provide. Nothing hidden, no surprises.
       4. I believe my training and experience as a mental-health therapist gives me a huge advantage over mediators who are not skilled in this area: I understand human behaviors, and how to help people get beyond painful emotions blocking their progress. I am a very compassionate person by nature, and after many years helping others with a variety of issues I know how to help clients reach workable agreements.

How does the mediation process work?
Usually the mediation process works like this:
--I spend one hour with each side learning about the situation from their point of view. I carefully listen to each side to capture their main interests and to clearly understand their perspective. If the case is very complicated or there are many things in contention this may take more than one hour for each side.
--After gaining a good understanding of the issues, all parties will meet for a two-hour mediation session to try to come up with an agreement which is acceptable to both sides. If this doesn't happen in the first two-hour session we may all decide to continue for an hour or two, or schedule another session.
--Mediation sessions will continue until both sides are satisfied with the agreement.

In the best case scenario, the whole process can take just four hours: one hour information gathering with each side, and two hours of mediation.

The typical process above can be altered to fit the needs of clients on a case-to-case basis.

Please know that I am deeply committed to staying completely unbiased in this process and I refuse to work for either side against the other. I work ethically and honestly to help both sides come to their own mutually agreeable outcome. This means that there is no agreement until it is mutually acceptable to both parties. This can be a daunting task. That is why you want to choose a mediator who is committed to making your mediation a peaceful, respectful process and who has the skill to facilitate agreements that are the best possible outcome for everyone, given the circumstances.

Mediation WORKS! Mediation agreements are binding in court! Mediation is usually MUCH cheaper than hiring attorneys!

With the right person as a guide, mediation can be a peaceful process with great rewards!

Consider mediation and give yourself the emotional freedom and peace of mind you deserve.

Please feel free to contact me for more information or if you have questions. I look forward to working with you!
